The knowledge of blog usage may come in handy for lessons that require multiple days of exploration, discussion, instruction that require students to build their knowledge base of subject matter over a span of days weeks or even months. This would allow multiple student and teacher contributers to add to the info stream via the blog and not only allow multiple open forum on a subject but the ability to recall information.
